Tribal Tech and the Combined Federal Campaign

Written by Erin Coffman

The Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) is the world's largest federal workplace giving campaign. It's an employee-focused and promoted campaign supporting philanthropy to over 5000 charities that are cost-effective and efficient. Last year the CFC raised over 84 million dollars. And they contributed over 80,000 volunteer hours to give back to the communities that federal civilian, postal and military donors chose! Nowhere else in the world can you find results like this.

How did it start?

In 1961 John F. Kennedy Jr. signed executive order 10927 into law creating the CFC and the Peace Corps. On March 3, 1971, President Nixon announced it would be the uniform fundraising option for the federal services, thus allowing payroll deduction. There was skepticism, but the contributions grew from $12.9 million in 1964 to $82.8 million in 1979.

The CFC makes it easy for employees to give to the causes they care about quickly. Employees trust that their donations go to causes they are passionate about. That's why you can find organizations and people all over the world who want to "Be the Face of Change."

In 2020, The campaign "You Can Be the Face of Change" was born and allowed actual employees to express the importance of why they give to their chosen nonprofits. Everyone has a passion or a desire to help, and by "being the face of change," you can talk about your passions around the water cooler with your coworkers. With so many options, you will find a compatible charity.

How does the money I give help?

One of the most incredible things about the CFC is its flexibility to give. Choosing to give five dollars can impact more than you may think.

  • Five dollars can provide a blanket for a refugee child or plant a few saplings that help the air we breathe.

  • Five dollars over two pay periods can protect six healthcare workers in Africa with facemasks, eye protection, and sterile gloves.

  • Five dollars over four pay periods can provide a flock of chicks for six families. Think about the nutrition that can bring.

  • Five dollars each pay period can add up to build a shelter for a refugee family. No gift or time commitment is too small.

How does Tribal Tech impact CFC?

In 2017, Tribal Tech partnered with the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) in implementing the CFC. Since then, our team has raised $156,958,555 out of the national pledge total of $364,567,955, which is 43% of the total raised!

As the National Marketing Outreach Coordinator (NMOC), we were responsible for developing and designing the campaign's popular theme and logo, "You Can Be The Face of Change." Thus influencing the total amount pledged.

Tribal Tech and our employees embrace the desire to work for a good cause and provide quality results. Each year we work to increase our portfolio. When we began in 2017, we administered five CFC zones, and now we manage 13 zones. We are so proud of our staff, who have been a part of this great campaign over the years.

Are you ready to be the change you wish to see in the world? There is a long list of different charities to choose from, with 30+ zones that make up the CFC throughout the United States and overseas. Check out how you can start your giving journey today at GiveCFC.org.
